Ten car larcenies occurred in August so far, many of these when the cars were left unlocked, according to the Glen Cove Police Department.
The incidents led police to beef up their patrols in the area. Overnight Friday, Aug. 23, seven vehicles were illegally entered on the Glen Cove side of Frost Pond Road, said police.
On Saturday, Aug. 24 at 11:05 p.m., police arrested a man they reportedly observed inside a vehicle on Elm Avenue in Glen Cove, according to police.
The man, identified as Kenneth Giambruno, who formerly lived in Glen Cove, was arrested and charged with attempted petit larceny.
Police are investigating the other car larcenies.
Police advise the following:
- Lock vehicles and if equipped with an alarm, turn it on,
- Try to park under a light or have it parked under a motion-activated light if possible,
- Do not keep valuable items in plain view inside your vehicle, it just entices a thief that much more,
- Don't ever keep an extra set of keys in your vehicle, and never leave your wallet containing cash and credit cards inside the vehicle.
